Quotes from the Episode:

“And as we start to look at sustainability and LEED, the two biggest things that impact sustainability are water efficiency, and energy efficiency. In fact, when we look at LEED, I believe those two categories combined account for 40% of the total points possible.”

“Our team partnered early on, I believe even in the programming phase with IMEG. So Crawford, Ryan Companies, and IMEG together began doing shoebox modeling, as you’d call it, to really understand what those opportunities were as far as what the end-uses are. It’s an ice hockey arena, so at some point, we want the inside cold, but it’s also in Minnesota, so we’re trying to heat this space at the same time. That early energy modeling helped us understand what our higher energy loads were and refine that with opportunities of where we could make those reductions.”

“Another sustainable initiative that plays a major role in the operations of sports facilities is waste management. As we start to look at waste management data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it suggests that spectators produce about half a pound of waste per event, which is a lot. So, Kaitlin, what were some of the design considerations that were considered to reduce waste for this particular project?”
