“Where the Workplace is a Work of Art”

Inspiration for the expansion of Zahner, an acclaimed engineering and fabrication company, came in the form of a still life painting: The arrangement of three similar items. Three pods rise from the urban campus to form an orderly composition of peaks and valleys, shadows and light that gently blend into each other.

Within the pods are conference rooms and co-working areas that flow freely into the fabrication workshop. Natural light streams into the interior through skylights and windows cut into the intricate façade. The entry glazing spans floor to ceiling and creates a visual connection between the new office and the existing facility.

The exterior is clad in amorphous zinc panels, making the structure appear scale-like and referencing textures found in the initial clay concept models. Zahner’s patented ZEPPS system forms the building’s structural ribs showcasing their innovative structural capabilities and becoming the important design element for the project.
