Quotes from the Episode:
“You have the right to control how and who uses your face, your name, and anything that that describes you in any meaningful way to the public. You have a right to say how that’s used. That’s exactly where NIL rights are as we know them today in college sports. So everybody has this right. It only matters now in the conversation of college athletics because, before, student athletes were not allowed to make money off of their name, image or likeness.”
“You know, there have been individual athletes who have become millionaires from their name, image and likeness, but then there’s also been a whole bunch of athletes that have just been able to be supported by certain marketing deals or institutional deals that have assisted them through their college career. I think both are extremely important.”
“As architects, we are continuing to monitor and understand the impact of NIL, as we talked about here, still fairly new, being at it was first implemented in 2021. I believe Clemson University is the first athletics program so far that has actually built a facility dedicated to the NIL. I believe they have a building right now that’s under construction, it includes a variety of spaces; a photo studio, some video studios, as well as a media training area.”
