Student Housing West

“Sustainable Student Housing”

The Student Housing West project will provide 3,000 new, efficiently-designed, high-density housing beds for upper-division students, graduate students, and students with families on two distinct sites at the UC Santa Cruz campus. All of the housing communities include associated social and amenity spaces, parking, and office/administration space. The site development will also feature a student “hub” comprised of dining and market space, as well as fitness and wellness space, an early education center, and a student commons area with multipurpose space and a variety of study and contemplative spaces. The site development includes a series of outdoor gathering places including a large open lawn area and site circulation for pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles. Outdoor gatherings spaces are provided for both formal and informal use through the harmonization of topography, planting, and seating. These facilities are anticipated to achieve the LEED Gold certification. Crawford Architects served as the design review manager.

Living on campus is an important element in the success of our students. Immersion in a campus environment helps foster student engagement and a sense of community. The project will allow for this to happen.
