Women’s Field Hockey Complex

“The Next Generation of Women’s Sports Facilities at Penn State”

Completed in fall 2024, the new Penn State Field Hockey Stadium stands as a powerful testament to the University’s enduring commitment to women’s athletics. Located adjacent to Bigler Field, this state-of-the-art facility is the program’s first stadium with dedicated on-site amenities, providing a long-awaited home for Penn State Field Hockey.

Designed by Crawford Architects, the complex features 1,200 permanent chair-back and bench seats, public restrooms, team meeting rooms and locker rooms for both home and visiting squads, as well as designated areas for broadcast and media coverage. The facility also includes coaches’ offices, a hospital room with a full view of the field, enhanced lighting, upgraded site amenities, and a commemorative garden honoring Hall-of-Fame Coach Char Morett-Curtiss.

Responding to the site’s challenging constraints, including the presence of underground utilities, the design team implemented an innovative “bridge” structure. This approach spans the press box over the rear seating bowl, minimizing the building’s footprint while providing shaded, covered seating for fans.

Now fully operational, the stadium debuted during the 2024 Women’s Field Hockey season and has quickly become a signature venue on campus, symbolizing progress, pride, and the legacy of excellence in women’s athletics at Penn State.
